Baltimore’s Pride Weekend will again feature a Youth Ball in collaboration with the Baltimore Ballroom Coalition during Saturday’s outdoor block party. While last year was the first celebration specifically for youth at the block party, the University of Maryland has been sponsoring free balls during the Pride season since 2007, according to Jamal Hailey, a prevention manager for STAR TRACK’s LinQ HIV prevention program at the University of Maryland.
As we enter the height of wedding season, Gay Life spoke with Tammy Freeman (31), creator of the “Say I Do!” LGBT Wedding Expo:
GL: Tell us about yourself. What is your background?
TF: I am originally from New York. I moved to Northern Virginia after graduating from Penn State with a B.S. in Economics and International Business. I’ve worked for major consulting firms around the beltway as a management and strategy consultant.
Intersections: Sexuality, Gender, Race and Ethnicity
The Women and Gender Studies Program of Morgan State University has partnered with BMore Proud to present their first academic symposium on sexuality, gender, race and ethnicity.
Literature fans can spend the last weekend of 2011’s Black History Month with Toni Morrison’s Pultizer Prize winning novel, Beloved. A discussion of the book, led by Faye Houston, will be held in the Poe Room at the Enoch Pratt Free Library, Central Branch at 10:15 a.m. Saturday, February 26, 2011.
Equality Maryland and Pride in Faith are excited to hold the annual prayer breakfast on January 27. The focus of the event is to unite local faith-based leaders in a rare gathering to galvanize renewed support and affirmation from the faith community for anti-discrimination protections, marriage for same sex couples, and equality for LGBT people. The day will include a traditional prayer breakfast followed by a set of lobby meetings with faith leaders and legislators.
